Caring For Your Spouse

Honor God With Your Relationships:
Caring for your spouse

"After all, no one ever hated their own body,
but they feed and care for their body,
just as Christ does the church.". Ephesians 5:29.

Becoming a believer in Christ is the most profound change that can happen to a person. Marriage is the second. Marriage changes "me" to "we." Marriage makes two people one flesh. Marriage forms a new organism, and the husband and wife are now of the same tissue. Their nervous systems are now interconnected. When one is miserable, the other groans. When one is happy, the other smiles.

Happy is the couple that recognizes their interdependence. Men generally take longer to figure this out. Here’s some help, guys, from St. Paul: “The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. . . . Husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. . . . After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church” (Ephesians 5:23,28,29).

Ever seen the sign hanging in some kitchens, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”? That’s not actually a Bible passage. But God designed marriage so that when husbands take care of their wives, that’s when their own lives gets really good. Guys, what does your wife need from you today? God bless
