Clothes

Honor God With Balance in Your Life:
Clothes

"I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God."   ~1 Timothy 2:9-10 (NIV)

This issue is the twin to the previous one. Clothes are part of our society’s way to project beauty and femininity. They are also tools for projecting sexuality.

There is power in sex--power to get attention, favors, and money. Every new fashion season brings another wave of pressure to sexualize women more, to wear clothes that are tighter and skimpier. Young women figure out pretty quickly that projecting sexuality gets men’s attention and money. What many women do not understand is that it does not get men’s love and respect.

Nor does it get God’s respect. He has a better way. “I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God” (1 Timothy 2:9,10).

What’s in your closet? What will you put on the temple today?  God bless
